The GOP Continues to Disrespect POTUS and Treat him Like an Enemy
From day one of President Obama’s historic inauguration as President of the United States of America in 2008, the GOP has relentlessly crusaded against him in an effort to destroy his presidency. Despite their repeated failures to do so, the GOP managed to get their supporters to believe the propaganda that the president is weak, incompetent, and unfit to be president.
If President Obama is really the worst president or is unfit to be president as the GOP claims, then they cannot preclude themselves as the primary contributing factor to these false ideas. The disrespect, propaganda, and hatred directed at President Obama are unprecedented, serve one purpose – to see him fail, and in effect destroy his legacy.
With the GOP’s Machiavellian schemes to help them achieve their goal to bring down President Obama, you would think that the president is an enemy of America. Some GOP members based on their pronouncements seems to think that the President is really an enemy of America by saying things like, “He doesn’t love America,’ “He does not have our values,” and “He is not patriotic,”
The idea that the GOP sees President Obama as the enemy is perhaps best demonstrated by Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) who was reported in the Marietta Daily Journal (Sept. 07, 2014) as saying, “ I think our enemy stands on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
President Obama has worked hard to do right for America at every opportunity, yet the GOP treats him worse than America’s real enemy. During the run-up to the Iran nuclear deal, 47 GOP Senators wrote a letter to Iran’s leaders warning them that the nuclear deal President Obama was negotiating with Iran was bad for them. This action was blatant disrespect and betrayal to the President of United States of America. Speaker John Boehner followed up with similar action when he invited Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu to address the U.S. Congress without the courtesy and required protocol of consulting with the White House.
Because the GOP has shown a lack of unity at home, and constantly sends a negative message about President Obama’s weakness and incompetence, America’s real enemies have tried to take advantage of this. Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin stepped up his insurgency campaign in North Caucasus and the Ukraine; ISIS has spread its terror across Syria and Iraq; and the despotic Kim Jong-un of North Korea pronounces threats at their neighbor, South Korea and the US.
The GOP like jungle predators attacking their prey has attacked President Obama’s major political initiatives like the Affordable Care Act and the nuclear deal with Iran. Still the president prevailed with these two initiatives. Perhaps sensing that they could get some mileage out of the Iran nuclear deal, the 2016 GOP presidential candidates competed to see who could be more outrageous in attacking the President – this apparently is an easy way to get media publicity. Mike Huckabee seems to have won that contest with his comment that, the deal would “Take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”
Mr. Huckabee and the 2016 GOP candidates who have made outrageous comments about the Iran nuclear deal was strongly condemned by President Obama while visiting Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This is what he said,
The particular comments of Mr. Huckabee are, I think, part of just a general pattern that we’ve seen that is — would be considered ridiculous if it weren’t so sad. We’ve had a sitting senator call John Kerry Pontius Pilate. We’ve had a sitting senator who also happens to be running for President suggest that I’m the leading state sponsor of terrorism. These are leaders in the Republican Party. And part of what historically has made America great is, particularly when it comes to foreign policy, ……… But we just don’t fling out ad hominem attacks like that, because it doesn’t help inform the American people.
I mean, this is a deal that has been endorsed by people like Brent Scowcroft and Sam Nunn — right? — historic Democratic and Republican leaders on arms control and on keeping America safe. And so when you get rhetoric like this, maybe it gets attention and maybe this is just an effort to push Mr. Trump out of the headlines, but it’s not the kind of leadership that is needed for America right now. And I don’t think that’s what anybody — Democratic, Republican, or independent — is looking for out of their political leaders.
In fact, it’s been interesting when you look at what’s happened with Mr. Trump, when he’s made some of the remarks that, for example, challenged the heroism of Mr. McCain, somebody who endured torture and conducted himself with exemplary patriotism, the Republican Party is shocked. And yet, that arises out of a culture where those kinds of outrageous attacks have become far too commonplace and get circulated nonstop through the Internet and talk radio and news outlets. And I recognize when outrageous statements like that are made about me, that a lot of the same people who were outraged when they were made about Mr. McCain were pretty quiet.
The point is we’re creating a culture that is not conducive to good policy or good politics. The American people deserve better. Certainly, presidential debates deserve better. In 18 months, I’m turning over the keys — I want to make sure I’m turning over the keys to somebody who is serious about the serious problems the country faces and the world faces. And that requires on both sides, Democrat and Republican, a sense of seriousness and decorum and honesty. And I think that’s what the voters expect, as well.
Despite the GOP’s anti-Obama crusade, President Obama is able to get his policies implemented. If the GOP had worked with President Obama in good faith instead of ill will, he would have accomplished much more for the American people. The economy for sure would be stronger if the GOP had supported the president’s stimulus package and there would be less political and social conflict.
Americans of good faith and sincerity must reject the negative and unjustified crusade against President Obama With the 2016 presidential election in full campaign mode, the current slate of GOP candidates – all of whom have maligned President Obama – continue to spew their disrespect and hatred of the president. Gov. Christie for example in a campaign ad said, “Barrack Obama was responsible for the lawlessness,” Donald Trump, the current leader of the 2016 GOP presidential candidates, refers to the president’s Iran nuclear deal as stupid. Former VP Dick Cheney, the mastermind of the Iraq war that cost America so much and is a reason for the mess in the Middle East, and the mass exodus of people from Syria, continues to spew his hatred and propaganda against President Obama.
America must reject the GOP insanity and hatred by keeping them out of the White House in 2016. This will help to restore the political decorum and make democracy stronger. If the GOP wants to “Make America great again” like Donald Trump says in his campaign theme, then they must find good leadership that has integrity and sound political judgement. Mr. Trump is not the person to give them this leadership. Narcissism and egotism are not the qualities that the president of the US should have and Mr. Trump has an overdose of these qualities. Furthermore, he does not have the political experience, the temperament, and the intellect to hold a job that requires these attributes.
